Nikki sighed, smiling easily at the waiter, before picking up her fork. "I started writing with this novel. It's not even close to done. At least, so says I." She rolled her eyes, laughing for half a second. She took a bite of her food. It allowed her not look at him - not to trust him - not to let him. It let her keep her distance. But his next comment made her look up with her green eyes. "Songs too?" she asked, blinking. Talent like that made her angry, in a good way. She couldn't rhyme to save her live. Other than cat, sat, mat...rat...what kind of poem or song could you make out of that? She looked back down to her meal and continued to eat, being careful. She could just see herself doing something totally stupid in this situation.
"You can't beat me in the klutz department. I promise." She rolled her eyes, but smiled at him, before looking down once more. No one could beat her. She was convinced it was a disease. She nodded slowly a couple times when he said they had something in common. Nikki didn't know if she wanted to acknowledge that...but oh well. She had. And it made her more curious about him that she should be. "Hm...just the way of the world," she mused. She took a sip of her water, looking down, thinking of Lacey and Chrys, who had tried so hard to pull her into the elite clique her freshman year. They hadn't succeeded. She had been an even more untrusting Nikki then. Maybe it would've been better for her now, if she was still that way.
She looked up at him, green eyes wide, until she say he was teasing. She laughed, smiling almost a full smile, green eyes glittering with humor. "You had me," she said, rolling her eyes at herself. She didn't like that she got a thrill from the fact that he wanted to see her again. She shouldn't. She couldn't. She wouldn't. It was just as simple as that. She wouldn't. This wasn't okay. It couldn't happen. Things like romance never ended happily. With a few rare exceptions. She went back to her dinner, still eating carefully. It was delicious - as it always was. She loved this restaurant, but she generally only came once a month at maximum. It wasn't crazy expensive, but it wasn't like making dinner at the dorm was.

hold your breath til we cross the sundown, THIS IS THE MOMENT, TIME IS RACING, SLOW IT DOWN. He blushed slightly, when she looked a bit surprised about the songs. "Yeah, songs. A few here and there." he said, shrugging, and looking at her. She really was very pretty. No! Carson, don't start! His brain screamed at him. He wasn't about to get into a relationship like that. He had hurt to many close friends. And most all...okay, all, had been girls that had liked him, and he'd been nice, thought they were cute, and realized that he didn't like them like that. He wasn't the shallow and vain type. He just...realized that beauty was only skin deep. But, with Nikki...there seemed to be a deeper person under even her gorgeous exterior. And he knew it was wrong, but he wanted to get closer to her. "I..uh..." he started, and stuttered a bit, trying to regain control over his blushing, and his speech. See, he thought, thats what you get for thinking about her like that. "I enjoy writing a lot. And playing my guitars, so...it just falls together." he finished, shoving some pasta into his mouth, and looking down, before he made more a fool of himself.... He smiled, and rolled his eyes. "I don't know about that, I mean, I'm a bit of a klutz myself." he shoved pasta in his mouth, and then chewed, swallowed, and continued, after clearing his throat with a sip of sprite. "I can not only roll down stairs, I can also trip up them." he admitted, raising one eyebrow at her. "Talented, aren't I?" he asked, with a laugh. "Ahh, I knew I had you pegged." he said, his eyes now, smiling with him, totally. "I knew there was something, special about you." he said, laughing. "What sorts do you eat? Mysteries? I suppose those would be...filling....Or cookbooks???" he joked. But inside, he was wondering if she'd just said she wouldn't object to seeing him again...

Nikki scowled at him. "Maybe you are. And tripping up stairs? Um, that's nothing. I trip up escalators. I mean, c'mon. You're not even stepping up the stairs..." She rolled her eyes. If there was something to trip on, Nikki would find it. She'd tripped and tried to catch herself on Tommy, her brother, but he'd fallen too, having not been expecting it. Neither of them had been hurt, but they'd been tangled together, and laughing for a solid five minutes, still on the ground. Their parents at just laughed and continued walking, knowing the two teens would catch up eventually. She laughed once when he said he knew he had her pegged. Probably not. He didn't know anything about it, when it came down it. Sure, he knew the surface details. Hobbies, etc. But she didn't know his past. If you knew Nikki's past, you knew you'd won her over. Until then, you could never be sure.
"Romance," she replied ruefully. "I'm a sucker for happily ever after." She looked down, setting her fork down, having finished eating. She picked up her water, taking a sip. She'd colored slightly when he said there was something special about her, but she pushed it away. No need for that. She glanced at the time, biting her lower lip. It was getting late. Sure, there wasn't school tomorrow but... Well, it didn't really matter. Nikki set the glass back on the table, and leaned back, looking at Carson. She was absently twirling a strand of brown hair around a finger. Really, she was lost in thought, green-eyed gaze on his features. He was handsome sure. And funny. And obviously well-mannered... but still. He wasn't worth the risk. No boy was. "You need me to show you how to get back to the dorms?" she asked, letting a teasing smile flicker to life on her features.
